Lincoln Center Reboot Stages Kick Off May 10 With Norm Lewis Concert


Launch of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Restart steps– the open-air performing arts center built on the Lincoln Center campus – May 10 with the public opening of “The GREEN,” a physical reimagining of Josie Robertson Plaza in an open space by Award-winning scenographer Mimi Lien.

A Land Blessing Ceremony – led by Chief Dwaine Perry of Ramapough Lunaape and hosted by the Redhawk Native American Arts Council – kicks off the evening at 7 p.m. ET, followed by a concert with singer-songwriter Martha Redbone.

Nominated for Tony Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess des Gershwin, parallel show) then takes the reboot scene at Damrosch Park at 8 p.m. The concert, featuring songs from the Broadway favorite’s stage career, is conducted by Richard Jay-Alexander. Lewis is accompanied by a trio of musicians led by musical director Joseph Joubert. Lewis’ concert will also be broadcast live on Lincoln Center Facebook and Youtube channels and lit Lincoln Center at home.

The Restart Stage at Damrosch Park will also host The king and meJose Llana, May 19 at 7 p.m. in a performance for the Nurses Association of the Philippines. The evening, recognizing the courage and strength of members of the Philippine Nurses Association throughout the pandemic, will also feature musical director Kimberly Grigsby at the piano.

“We’re getting into the heart of Act One, so to speak, in our efforts to harness the energy and creativity that make New York City one of the most exciting places to live and be,” said Henry Timms, President and CEO of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in an earlier statement. “It’s heartwarming to be able to provide a space for artists from all five boroughs to create and perform, and a space for New Yorkers to connect with the arts and with each other after so many months of isolation.

Select additional To restart Steps events will be broadcast live on digital platforms at Lincoln Center and partner organizations, and all offerings will take place outdoors with security protocols in place for performers, audiences and staff.
